The holiday season is upon us, which means there are several holiday events in Pittsburgh. Whether you’re looking for a romantic event for a date or for a simply something fun to do with the whole family, there’s an event for nearly everyone. Here at Shults Ford Harmarville, we’ve put together a list of just a few of the many upcoming holiday events and activities in the area.
According to Visit Pittsburgh, there are a number of holiday performances in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District. For example, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre has an annual production of The Nutcracker, a holiday classic set to the music of Tchaikovsky. The Pittsburgh CLO also puts on a performance of A Christmas Carol every year, and the Symphony Orchestra will have Highmark Holiday Pops.
Next, check out the Peoples Gas Holiday Market. Held from November 17 to December 23, this market is designed like a quaint European village, yet it’s held in the heart of the Downtown’s Market Square. You can find holiday gifts from a long list of local vendors. There’s also hot apple cider and a range of local restaurants nearby for dinner.
Finally, visit the Highmark First Night Pittsburgh on December 31. This New Year’s Eve celebration is an arts-centered event held in the Cultural District. There will be live music, performances, ice sculptures, and more. An extravaganza that’s great for families, you can be a part of the 50,000 participants that will gather to see the ball drop in Pittsburgh. This is just one of the many fun things to do this winter in the area.
Ford Fund will invest $5 million in a struggling Detroit neighborhood to build a community center and create education opportunities. Ford Fund is Ford Motor Company’s philanthropic arm and has made investments of over $161 million in area communities over the last 10 years.
The Ford Fund investment in Detroit will launch a second Ford Resource and Engagement Center in conjunction with Detroit Public Schools and the Detroit Public Schools Foundation. The center will be housed at Fisher Magnet Upper Academy on the east side of the city and will give better access to educational materials and other essential services for area children and adults.
In addition to providing information access and services, the Ford Resource and Engagement Center will do its best to meet community needs by providing programs asked for by residents of the surrounding neighborhoods, including job training programs, cultural and art services, and food distribution.
The first Detroit Ford Resource and Engagement Center is located on the southwest side in Mexicantown Mercado and has helped more than 80,000 residents. The original center offers services such as preparing tax returns and giving more than 1.2 million pounds of food. Ford says the return on investment for the community is $3 for every $1 spent on the programs by Ford.
The new center is due to open in early 2017 and will be managed by the Detroit Public Schools Foundation.
Contrary to previous reports of the need to close and retool some plants for the new aluminum 2015 Ford F-150, the Ford F-Series sales are still on the rise. Ford posted the best sales numbers in February 2014 that it has seen in 8 years.
America’s best-selling truck for the past 37 years has continued to make moves on the market, despite the rumors that the necessity to close some plants to get them ready for the 2015 Ford F-150 would slow the F-Series sales down for awhile. Not only has that not happened, but sales will continue to increase when the 2015 Ford F-150 will be added to the numbers later this year.
John Felice, Ford vice president, U.S. marketing, sales and service, gave his reasoning for the highest February sales in 8 years. “Sales surged in the final week, providing us momentum after a slow start to the month. Ford Fusion continued its strong retail sales performance in the West, outpacing the mid-size sedan segment. F-Series and Lincoln also continued to perform well.”
At Shults Ford of Harmarville, we are proud to be the home of the best-selling truck in America, and even though some plants have closed to get ready for the 2015 Ford F-150, the continued increase in Ford F-Series sales goes to show what a truly amazing truck the F-150 really is.
