Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a genetic disease that doesn’t discriminate by age or gender. It affects thousands of Americans and millions of people worldwide. The treatment can range from dialysis to full-on kidney transplants. Did you know that you can help find a cure and support those impacted by the disease? The 2017 Walk for PKD, the perfect means to do just that, is right around the corner.
The 2017 Walk for PKD takes place on Saturday, September 23rd in Pittsburgh. Check-in and registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the two-mile walk begins at 10 a.m.
Parents affected by PKD have a 50 percent chance of passing the disease on. Of those impacted by PKD, more than 50 percent will need some form of treatment by the time they’re 50 years old. Currently, the only treatment options for PKD are dialysis and a kidney transplant. PKD is also the number cause of kidney failure in children and adults.
The PKD Foundation is the only organization dedicated to finding more treatments for PKD. The volunteers work tirelessly to support those who have had their lives changed by the disease.
Support those in need by taking a walk this September.
We here at Shults Ford of Harmarville hope to see you at the 2017 Walk for PKD!
