Ford’s next-generation pickup truck, the 2015 F-150, is a radical redefinition of the entire pickup truck segment. It’s built on a new body frame that’s heavily infused with aluminum, which will make the pickup a segment leader in fuel efficiency, but the changes don’t stop there. In fact, you’ll find improvements throughout the vehicle’s design, including the rear window. Thanks to a supplier-made innovation, the new Ford F-150 will boast a power rear window option that directly responds to customer wants and needs.
The new window, a one-piece seamless sealing technology, was designed and created by Magna International in an open contest run by Ford. “They said they wanted visibility, that it seals well when it is closed, but still able to open the center window and use the defog when it is open,” said Noah Mass, a Ford manager for body exterior mechanisms. Magna International answered the bell with a perfect design.
In fact, the new window even allows you to defrost the window while it is open. Ford hopes to extend the technology to many other vehicles after a successful trial run in the F-150. Until then, though, we’re all very excited to finally get our hands on the vehicle here at Shults Ford of Harmarville. Check back with us on the blog often for more updates.
