Tearing down the highway and back county roads used to be the realm that the Ford Mustang specialized in, but now the Mustang might have to share. The 2017 Ford Focus RS is a power-packed hatchback designed for drivers who want more punch in the gas pedal. Affordable pricing and a legacy of performance make the Ford Focus RS a tough model to argue with.
The “RS” in Ford Focus RS stands for “Rally Sport.” The 2017 Ford Focus is the latest model to the bear the badge, putting it in a pool of performance-driven models. Just over 20 models have had the honor of bearing the badge since 1970.
The 2017 Ford Focus RS comes equipped with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost® four-cylinder engine paired to a manual transmission. That powertrain delivers a heart-stopping 350 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque to the road.
The hot hatch rolls out on sport tires with a low stance that says it’s ready for action. Performance front disc brakes, a firm suspension, and more reinforce that statement. Advanced technologies, such as Launch Control, adjustable traction control, and switchable driving modes allow drivers to get as close to the road as they please.
We here at Shults Ford of Harmarville are ready to take you on a test drive in the exciting new 2017 Ford Focus.
Ford is adding some kick to the new Focus design, adding the RS trim for those looking for added performance. This model comes with a sporty hatch design with a redesigned exterior, distinct badging, and a powerful new powertrain.
According to Ford, the Ford Focus RS recently came off the line at its manufacturing plant in Saarlouis, Germany, and is set to reach the US sometime this spring. The RS has a new 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine with an integrated all-wheel drive system and Dynamic Torque Control.
“The arrival of Focus RS in the United States this spring adds to a potent hot hatch lineup,” said Ford in a press release. “Ford’s Focus ST and Fiesta ST both have enjoyed critical acclaim and success. Sales of the Focus ST increased 9 percent last year while Fiesta ST saw a gain of 4 percent.”
The RS will also feature an innovative driver select mode, letting you choose the performance configurations of your liking. These include Normal, Sport, Track, and Drift mode. Customizing shock tuning, stability control, and engine and steering response, the new select mode features makes the RS incredibly fun to drive. We can’t wait to see this model hit the streets later this year.
Americans screamed for years, imploring Ford: why should Europe get to have all the fun? By fun, we of course mean the Ford Focus RS, that certain version of the Focus that features the benefits of Ford’s performance know-how, all in a lightweight, compact–and extremely good-looking–package.
Until recently, our screams seemed to fall on deaf ears. But soon, the spring of 2016 to be exact, we’ll finally get what we wished for, and it’s everything we hoped for!
The newly redesigned 2016 Ford Focus RS is faster than any of its predecessors. To make that happen, Ford took one its innovative 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines and tweaked specially for the Focus RS. If Ford’s projections are correct, the engine will deliver exactly 350 horsepower and 350 lb-ft. of torque, producing a top speed of 165 mph.
Knowing this, the performance numbers for the Focus RS may not be that surprising…but they should be just as impressive. The new 2016 Ford Focus RS goes from 0 to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds.
Often, our expectations of an exciting redesigned model can fall short. So it’s very nice to see that the new Focus RS should have no trouble exceeding any reasonable person’s expectations. See you in the spring!
Approaching its big United States release date in the spring, Ford has been slowly revealing more stats for the upcoming 2016 Ford Focus RS, a vehicle that is promising to be one of the hottest sedans on the market.
Most recently, Ford announced that the 2016 Focus RS will be able to accelerate from zero to highway speeds of 62 mph in a mere 4.7 seconds, an impressive feat for sure.
Additionally, the vehicle will potentially be able to hit speeds of up to 165 mph, though that’s certainly something you will not want to test on your local highway. This makes the 2016 Ford Focus RS the fastest RS model ever.

In 2016, Ford Performance will be adding another Ford model to the ranks of the GT super car, Mustang Shelby GT350R, and F-150 Raptor. It’s the rally car inspired Ford Focus RS, sporting all-wheel-drive and a six-speed manual. The hot hatch roars with a Mustang 2.3-liter turbocharged-engine throwing 315 angry ponies down to its 19-inch wheels.
“The all-new Focus RS is a serious machine with high-performance technology and innovative engineering that sets a new benchmark for driving exhilaration on the road and track,” Raj Nair, group vice president of global product development, said in a statement.
For Ford, it’s a homecoming of sorts. The car company has long sold RS (Rally-Sport) models in Europe and Asia, where the brand has been associated with winning World Rally Championships. This Focus is the 30th Ford to wear the RS badge and one of a growing number of high-octane cars being built under the Ford Performance umbrella.
While pricing is not yet set, the coming of the RS will hail a new era of hatchback performance at Shults Ford of Harmarville. Stop by for more details on this exciting car.
