New Year’s Resolutions for Car Safety

New Year’s Resolutions for Car SafetyHappy 2014 everyone! The New Year is finally here, and with new beginnings comes our New Year’s resolutions. While some of us have promised to make it to the gym more, opt for healthier food options, lay off some hard beverages, or strive to accomplish something great, Shults Ford is giving everyone some car safety resolutions that you should make sure to stick to this year!

Put down your cell phone!

We all say that we don’t text or use our phone while we drive, but most of us can admit to using it every now and then. Even if it’s checking the weather or looking to see who messaged you, it’s a driving distraction. One resolution this year should be to during your phone off or put it away when you’re driving. Most things can wait a few minutes while you’re on the road, we promise!

Seatbelts!

If you traveling with your family or friends, it’s important to make sure everyone is buckled up. If you want to increase vehicle safety this year, make sure everyone is buckled up before you put the car in drive. Remember, you are responsible for their lives!

Don’t test the gas tank

We’ve all been in the situation where you need gas, but don’t have time to run to the gas station. Before you know it, your gas light is on and you cross your fingers to make sure you make it to fill up on time. In 2014, make a resolution to fill up when you are getting low, and not wait until that dreaded little light comes on before you get gas. Don’t end up with a dead car on the side of the road this year!

Absolutely no drinking and driving

This one should be a given. Make sure to renew your resolution for 2014 to NEVER drink and drive. Have a buddy that you alternate driving with or make sure you have a contact to call if you need a ride. If you don’t have a taxi’s number saved in your phone already, do that right now! It may be the best resolution you have ever made.

Make these simple car safety resolutions this year and you are set to make 2014 a great one! Swing by Shults Ford for some awesome 2014 deals today!

Shults Ford’s Yee Haw Visit to Children’s Hospital

Visit to Children’s HospitalAs you all are probably very aware, one of Shults Ford’s main goals as a business is to try to put a smile on each and every one of our customers, fans, and friends faces. In order to accomplish this goal, we decided to start off by putting a smile on every single kid in the area we could. That is where the Junior Yee Haw contest came about.

To kick off the Junior Yee Haw Contest, members of the Shults Ford team, including Richard Bazzy himself, visited the local Children’s Hospital. Here, we distributed out our signature Cowboy Hat, some coloring books, crayons, and Toys R Us gift cards to children staying in the hospital. While we were there, we recorded some pretty adorable Yee Haws for the Junior Yee Haw Contest as well.

Shults Ford takes pride in serving the local community. That is why we are giving a Toys R Us gift card and cowboy hat to every child who records their Christmas Yee Haw at Shults Ford this December. We hope we bring as much joy into our customer and fans lives that you guys bring to us.

We hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and remember to smile!

Ford F-150 Tops “Forbes” Best-Selling Car List, is Not Actually a Car

Ford F-150 Tops “Forbes” Best-Selling Car List, At the halfway point in November, there are a number of things we can come to expect in the remaining month and a half of 2013: the Steelers resurgence, great food and bad traffic around Thanksgiving, the annual dose of gift-giving anxiety, and year-end best-of lists.  Yet even with a little over a month to go for the year, you can pretty much call the race for best-selling car over, according to Forbes.  The winner, however, is not a car; it’s the Ford F-150.

Ford’s flagship truck topped Forbes’ recent top ten list thanks in large part to an auto industry boom  that has analysts predicting the best year for all things four-wheeled since 2006.  Much of this surge is attributed to the emergent housing market, which means that so many of America’s hardest-working men and women have leaned on the talents of Ford’s F-Series to help them get the job done.

Fending off the advances of redesigned competitor trucks and putting a greater emphasis on tech and fuel efficiency without sacrificing requisite power, Ford’s F-Series has moved 623,309 units through October.  This amounts to a 19.8% year-over-year increase and a comfortable lead over the second-place vehicle.

Ironically enough, only half of Forbes’ ten best-selling cars for 2013 are truly cars: three are trucks and two are compact crossovers.  Rounding out the top ten is the Ford Escape, whose 2014 redesign has made it a hit with drivers across North America and helped it gain substantial ground on the segment-leading CR-V in sales, ensuring a fight to the finish line.  The hot-selling 2014 Ford Fusion, Focus, and Explorer also find themselves among the top 20, reaffirming Ford’s dominance across all segments.

Remember that holiday shopping anxiety we mentioned before?  If you want to allay those fears, consider getting the one you love behind the wheel of the best-selling car/truck/vehicle/super-tough-all-purpose-transportation-monster in America.  It probably won’t fit under the tree too well, but it’d look a sight better than a Snuggie.  Stop in and see us at Shults Ford today and make those spirits bright.

Preparing for Winter Weather

Preparing for Winter Weather

Snow on the windshield already?

Whether we like it or not, winter is well on its way. While we love building snowmen, cozying up by the fire, drinking hot chocolate and the holiday season, winter is not necessarily our car’s favorite season. Lucky for you and your car, Shults Ford is here to help prepare you for winter weather.

  • Check the engine coolant: You car’s coolant is designed to keep your engine from overheating as well as protect it from corrosion. It’s important to make sure the coolant has the proper mix of water and antifreeze before the weather gets too cold.
  • Check the oil: Typically when the temperature outside changes, the internal temperature of your engine changes as well. Since weather around Pittsburgh drops below freezing in the winter, you will want to switch to a thinner, less viscous oil. It will help protect internal temperatures.
  • Check the battery: Batteries can be sneaky little parts. They don’t give us much notice before dying. During the winter, cold temperatures can reduce car battery life up to 50 percent. Have a mechanic test your battery before the cold weather really hits.
  • Check your tires: When the roads get wet, snowy and icy, properly inflated tires will help guarantee better traction. If you’re really worried about the roads this winter, consider snow tires.
  • Check windshield wiper blades and fluid: Nothing’s worse than getting in the car, it starts pouring, and your wipers do nothing but smear water around the windshield. Make sure that you not only check the condition of the blades, but also make sure wiper fluid is full.

As always, Shults Ford is here to make sure your car is all ready for winter weather.  Bring it in today and have one of our certified mechanics give it a good inspection and replace anything that needs done. See you soon!

Ford Focus ST Attracts New Market of Buyers

2014 Focus ST

When Ford released the all-new Focus ST, they knew it would be big, but maybe not this big. Not only has the all-new sedan launched Ford sales this quarter, but sale demographics show that the ST has attracted a new, interesting market of car buyers.

Ford announced that the Focus ST has sold just under 12,000 units in the United States since its launch. Among these buyers, 32% are under the age of 35, compared to only 22% of non-ST Focus owners. Another interesting statistic pulled from this data is income. ST owners have an average annual salary of $127,000 compared to $67,000 for non-ST Focus owners.

But which buyer is the all-new Focus ST most attractive to you ask? Surprising enough, 65% of Focus ST buyers traded in a non-Ford vehicle to buy the new sedan. This is the highest percentage of conquest sales for a non-hybrid vehicle among all ford cars and trucks. Ford noted that the most traded-in brand include Honda, Chevy, Mazda and Toyota.

Ford’s Focus ST was the first global performance car Ford launched under the ST trim. The Fiesta ST is the most recent release, boasting a 197-horsepower 1.6-liter EcoBoost® engine with a 35 mpg fuel economy rating.

Interested in seeing what the hype around the popular Focus ST is all about? Stop by Shults Ford of Harmarville today!
